Indication:TECVAYLI is a bispecific B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA)-directed CD3 T-cell engager. This innovative immunotherapy works by simultaneously binding to BCMA, a protein found on multiple myeloma cells, and CD3, a protein expressed on the surface of T-cells (a type of immune cell). By bringing these two cells together, TECVAYLI activates the patient's own T-cells to recognize and kill the myeloma cells.

TECVAYLI is a bispecific B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA)-directed CD3 T-cell engager indicated for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma who have received at least four prior lines of therapy, including a proteasome inhibitor, an immunomodulatory agent and an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody. TECVAYLI offers an “off-the-shelf” (readily available) treatment option for heavily pre-treated patients, providing a new avenue for durable responses in a population with limited therapeutic options.

What is TECVAYLI and what is it used for?

TECVAYLI (teclistamab-cqyv) is a bispecific antibody used to treat adult patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. This means it’s for patients whose cancer has returned or has not responded to previous treatments, specifically those who have received at least four prior lines of therapy, including certain classes of drugs (a proteasome inhibitor, an immunomodulatory agent, and an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody).

How does TECVAYLI work?

TECVAYLI works as an immunotherapy by acting as a “bridge.” It has two “arms”: one arm binds to a protein called BCMA, which is found on multiple myeloma cells, and the other arm binds to CD3, a protein on your own T-cells (a type of immune cell). By bringing these two cells close together, TECVAYLI activates your T-cells, directing them to recognize and kill the myeloma cells.

What are the most common side effects of TECVAYLI?

Common side effects include Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS), infections, low blood counts (like low white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets), fatigue, muscle pain, fever, nausea, and diarrhea.

What is Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS) and ICANS, and why are they important?

CRS is a serious side effect that can occur when the immune system becomes overactive, leading to widespread inflammation. Symptoms can include fever, chills, low blood pressure, difficulty breathing, and organ dysfunction. ICANS (Immune Effector Cell-Associated Neurotoxicity Syndrome) is a type of neurologic toxicity that can cause symptoms like confusion, difficulty speaking, headaches, or tremors. Both CRS and ICANS can be serious or life-threatening and require prompt medical attention. Due to the risk, patients receiving TECVAYLI are closely monitored, often requiring hospitalization during the initial step-up dosing.
