Indication:Erwinase is used as part of chemotherapy regimens to treat certain types of leukemia. Unlike other forms of asparaginase made from E. coli, Erwinase is used in patients who have developed hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to E. coli-derived asparaginase.

Erwinase is indicated in the treatment for patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) who have developed hypersensitivity to E. coli-derived asparaginase. It is used as a substitute to ensure continuity of therapy in patients who cannot tolerate other asparaginase preparations, helping to maintain the effectiveness of multi-agent chemotherapy protocols.

Dosage:

To substitute for a dose of pegaspargase: 

  • The recommended dose is 25,000 International Units/m2 administered intramuscularly three times a week (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) for six doses for each planned dose of pegaspargase. 

To substitute for a dose of native E. coli asparaginase: 

  • The recommended dose is 25,000 International Units/m2 administered intramuscularly for each scheduled dose of native E. coli asparaginase within a treatment.
